Yay for Cath!

Catherine finished the Boston Marathon (her first ever marathon) in 4 hours and 59 minutes on Monday (by her watch; she didn’t include bathroom stops :) ). I’m so proud of her; she did a great job. And she achieved her goal of a sub-5-hour time.

I took the T out to Woodland and the 17-mile mark to watch her. When she ran by, she looked great. Totally comfortable and happy. She gave me a hug and a kiss and kept going. I hopped back on the T took it to the 22-mile mark at Coolidge Corner. When I saw her there, she was super tired. The hills from miles 16-20 really took their toll. But she only had 4 miles to go.

I took the T to just past the finish line and waited for her as she walked down the long chute. But she finished about 10 minutes before I thought she would, so she was already waiting at the family meeting area. She was sore and stuff, but she managed to make it down the steps to the T. She’s still sore now, and she lost a toenail, but she didn’t injure anything and has been regaining her appetite.

More running

Since my last post, I’ve completed weeks of 17.5 miles and 18.8 miles. This week I’m doing 20.0. Then I will fall back to 14-15 for the next week as a recovery week.

So far I’m feeling really good. Last week I was pretty tired and sore, but I took Tuesday and Wednesday off and that helped a lot. Since then I’ve felt great, with good pacing on my runs. Yesterday I went out pretty fast and did 4.4 in 38:19, an 8:42 pace. And it didn’t feel that hard.

Catherine is running the Boston Marathon on Monday, so wish her luck! She saw an orthopedist for her foot, and he did an x-ray and bone scan and said she didn’t have a stress fracture. So she’s been running again since last week and feels prepared for the big day.
